The Company

Norbord Industries was an international producer of wood-based panels and products, including oriented-strand board, particleboard, medium-density fiberboard, and hardwood plywood. Based in Toronto, Canada, Norbord possessed assets of US$1.5 billion and employed approximately 2,700 personnel among 15 operations spread across Canada, Europe, and the United States. Norbord was acquired by West Fraser in 2021.

The Problem

Norbord Industries manually distributed their mission-critical business documents via print, fax, and postal mail, wasting valuable time and resources. The company required a solution that would integrate with their internally developed applications on the HPe3000 and HP9000 environments to automate their business correspondence’s email and fax delivery reliably.

The Solution

For more than 20 years, Norbord Industries has relied on STR Software’s AventX product line for ensuring the successful delivery and receipt of its mission-critical documents. Almost two decades after their original investment, Norbord Industries continued to leverage AventX to automatically deliver purchase orders, invoices, bills of lading, A/P payment, and shipping notices until West Farmers acquired it.

Initially purchased to integrate with the MultiView application on the HPe3000, AventX automated the email and fax delivery of up to 1,200 documents per day. Established as a reliable solution critical to operational success, Norbord Industries again selected AventX to integrate with their new UNIX-based HP9000 migration environment to ensure smooth document delivery.

Designed to automate the email and fax delivery of any printable document, AventX is scalable to automate any volume and any document format while providing acknowledgment receipt of the document delivery. “Our users enjoy confirmation of delivery from the acknowledgment file returned by AventX to our applications,” states John Pickering, independent consultant for Norbord Industries. AventX provides acknowledgments back to individual users via email, print, and the web.
